
The Alabama Dietetic Association (ALDA) is an affiliate of the American Dietetic Association. This professional organization is an advocate of the dietetics profession whose mission is to promote optimal nutrition, health and well-being. The membership consists of over 900 nutrition professionals residing in the state of Alabama. These professionals are nutrition experts consisting of Registered Dietitians (RD) and Dietetic Technicians (DTR). The Alabama Dietetics/Nutrition Practice Act of 1989 was passed by the Legislature of Alabama requiring state licensure for all individuals practicing in the field of nutrition and dietetics. State licensure credentials are noted by the LD designation (Jane Smith, RD, LD).

Requirements for Licensure
Individuals requesting licensure from the State of Alabama must pass an examination under the guidance of the Commission of Dietetic Registration and meet educational and professional experiences outlined by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietetics/Nutrition Practice. Each licensed dietitian is required to submit evidence of 30 CEU hours every 2 years. General fees are as follows:

*New graduates can apply for a temporary license for 1 year for the initial fee of $75 and an additional $62.50 fee. Fees for new residents etc. are prorated to the state licensing period.

Self-Study Continuing Education Program - "Feeding: A Priority for Dietetics Professionals." This program is approved for 4 clock hours by CDR. The program consists of a 3 part DVD and workbook which covers feeding development and problems of infants and children with special health care needs. The DVD lasts 85 minutes but is divided into three parts and includes a lecture on feeding problems and videos of infants and children from Early Intervention programs, clinics and intervention programs.
